The Maney’s in Monroe, Louisiana — It was great to be able to participate in Drew’s ordination on Sunday evening. The Maney’s have a great church community there and Drew is going to have a very productive ministry there. Kevin Skogen (Caleb’s father) was also able to participate in the ordination service. You can find some (fuzzy) pictures on Providence’s Facebook page.
Parish Groups — Parish groups will meet in the afternoon and evening on Sunday, February 18. Look for an updated parish group list soon. You will get a message from your parish elder before the meeting about the time and place of the event.
Deacons Fund Offering — This Sunday the deacons will receive the monthly Deacons Fund offering, an offering used to help the needy in our congregation. Please designate your offering by annotating “Deacons Fund” on the memo line of your check or place a contribution of cash in the envelope provided in your bulletin.
Ladies Bible Study — Continues tomorrow, Thursday, 9:30 AM at church. Pastor Meyers will continue our study through Genesis. We begin this time at Genesis 10-11, the prelude to the life of Abraham. You are invited to join with us at any time for the teaching, discussion, and fellowship. Child care is provided. Please contact Kathy Hoegemann if you need child care.
2017 Contribution Statements — Please be sure to pick up your 2017 contribution statement (for tax purposes) available on the book table in the narthex.
New Adult Sunday School Class — This Sunday we continue our new adult Sunday school class focusing on the creeds and confessions of the church. We are using Justin Holcomb’s book Know the Creeds and Councils It’s not too expensive ($10) and it’s very readable. We will only have a few copies left on the book table. This week we will be talking about the Council of Nicea and the Nicene Creed (chapter 2).
Nursery Care — Thank you for signing up to help in the nursery! The schedule is filled with volunteers!
Missionary Update & Prayer — Remember Pastor Ryan Van Horn this week and his church planting efforts at Resurrection in Chattanooga, TN.
Women in the Church (WIC) Book Discussion — The next book discussion will be on Monday, February 12 at 7:00 pm. We are reading the book, The Woman Who Smashed Codes: A True Story of Love, Spies, and the Unlikely Heroine Who Outwitted America's Enemies by Jason Fagone. You can get the book from Amazon for about $17. The discussion will be held at the home of Maggie Montgomery, 741 Hawbrook in Glendale. All women are invited to join us for Bunco and for the book group, even if you don’t read the book.
Women of the Church (WIC), do you receive WIC emails? Would you like to? Please contact Debbie Keane to be added. Don’t want to receive WIC emails? Let Debbie know if you don’t want to be on the group mailings.
Contact Numbers — You can reach the church secretary, Jennifer Vermeer, via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or her phone (208-899-9123). Make sure you get your announcements to her by Wednesday evening each week to insure they get into the Sunday bulletin. You can reach Pastor Meyers at email@example.com or his phone (314-374-5258).
Facebook & Website — Check out our Facebook page for links to interesting articles and other information. Our church website is providencestlouis.com. You can find sermon files and the directory there in the “members only” section. If you’d like the password to that section, please contact Pastor Meyers (and you don’t need to be a member to get the password, just a regular attender).
The Week’s Scripture Passage — 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
– Pastor Jeff Meyers
